Richard Dent, a Florida A&M alumnus and vice-chairman of the university’s board of trustees, resigned yesterday. In a release from the university, Dent attributed his departure to his increased focus on his role as c0-CEO and president of Astor & Black, a custom clothier company.

But in an interview with the Tallhassee Democrat, Dent cited growing frustration with fiscal issues at the school and mounting scrutiny.

“Five years ago I thought we would be in a much, much different place. The gap between my expectations and where we are is just yawning,” said Dent, chairman of the board’s Budget and Finance Committee, during a Tuesday morning telephone interview. “It’s very personally hard for me.”

“We’re sort of in the eye of the hurricane right now, and this is a good time to step out before the other hurricane wall erupts. There’s going to be a lot going on, and I won’t be able to dedicate the time it’s going to take in the coming months.” (Tallahassee Democrat)
